It's showtime!!!

My last two paintings will be on show at the Jayglo Gallery from 4th - 10th July. I'll be at the private view on Thursday, and on Friday evening too, when there'll be a live dj. So, come along!

The closest station is Liverpool Street, and it's only a 10-15 min walk or short bus trip from there, near Brick Lane.

Cheers,

Stephan

The Hungerford Bridge

Here's my second London scene. Measuring 10" x 8", the scene (underneath The Hungerford Bridge looking towards the northern bank of the Thames) is painted in oils on linen canvas. On the left, through the gap between the Hungerford bridge and the new walkway, one of the ships moored on the Thames can be seen.

The inspiration for this, and my previous London painting, was taken from the Welsh landscape painter Thomas Jones (1742 - 1803), who I discovered at the National Gallery. Paintings like this one at the NG..

... and this one at the National Museum Cardiff (which I found on the internet)..

..impressed me by their simplicity, unusual composition (especially for their time), and calm. I tried to emulate them in my two small canvases.

Both paintings will soon be on display in a London-themed show being organised by a friend of mine in July. I will post more details shortly.
